Sample Lesson Plan

  1. Time Needed: 

    • 7-8 minutes

    • Boomwhackers

    • After practicing with the teacher, student’s will be able to identify the letter names on the treble clef staff by playing them on boomwhackers consistently (90%).

    • Since it is my second teaching I want to improve upon my first lesson by speaking more slowly, not speaking into the whiteboard and having more energy when teaching.

  6. Procedures

    • Welcome everyone to class. Ask about their day.

    • Review how many lines and spaces are on the staff.

      • 5 lines

      • 4 spaces

    • Review order of note names 

      • Alphabetical order (ABCDEFG)

      • Ask for a volunteer to say them out loud 

    • Anyone remember our acronym to help us remember the names?

      • Every Good Bird Does Fly!

      • FACE

    • Refer to song on the white board 

      • Old Macdonald 

      • Do not tell the students the name of the song 

    • We are going to play a fun game! Boomwhackers!

    • Pass out boomwhackers to volunteers 

    • Point out the color coordination between the boomwhackers and the notes on the board

    • Point at individual notes in the song so students have to pay attention. Have them play their boomwhacker when you point to their note specifically.

    • Have the students play through Old McDonald on their boomwhackers 

    • Did anyone recognize this familiar tune?

    • Switch up who is holding the boomwhackers and play the song again

    • 4 minutes active review, 3 minutes boomwhacker activity
